TBE SUPPORTS MARTY"S MISSION

Once again, Temple Beth El launched a successful drive for the Second Harvest Food Bank, an organization that takes to heart our obligation to feed the hungry. This is the fourth year for "Marty's Mission", named by Joyce Traugot to honor the memory of her husband, Marty.

Many thanks to all of you who brought items during the High Holidays drive, filling three bins to overflowing.

Come to Shabbat for Hunger- Our upcoming project to support Second Harvest

Thank you for your continued support.

Our Bar and Bat Mitzvah Projects

Each Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitvah student develops a special Mtzvah Project in conjunction with studying for the ceremony itself. As this information becomes available, it will be posted below.

Please help our students serve their community and "be a light unto the nations." Give your support to their Mitzvah Projects.

Jason Fleischmann February 19, 2010

Jason is working with the United States Holocaust Museum's R3 Service Project.

This project has reinforced his commitment to be the next generation:

to promote Remembrance of the Holocaust,
to Reflect on the this low point of Jewish history and on what it means for Jews today, and
to Respond to the present through his commitment to acts designed to help repair the world.

Jason has also chosen to remember at his Bar Mitzvah a cousin of his Grandmother, who died in the Holocaust before he could celebrate his own Bar Mitzvah.

Isaac Shefner March 13, 2010

Isaac has created a fundraising campaign called Links of Love for Haiti.

When Isaac learned of the disaster in Haiti, he knew immediately what he wanted to do for his Mitzvah project. After cconnecting with Friends of Fort Liberté, a nongovernmental organization that has worked in Haiti for over 30 years, Isaac began making and selling paper chain links that match the color of the students' pods at Farragut Middle School.

Isaac has already raised several thousand dollars and expects the fund to continue to grow.
