HUH?? What is a Take-A-Chance Auction or a White Elephant Gift Exchange???

***Take-A-Chance auction is very similar to silent auctions except they have a raffle-like component added. The difference between a raffle and a TAKE-A-CHANCE auction is that in a raffle with multiple prizes, there is one "hat" from which names are drawn, but in a Take-A-Chance auction, each prize has its own "hat." This allows ticket buyers to choose which prize to focus on, as opposed to having a first, second, third, etc. prize.
Bidders buy as many tickets as they like, and bid them on any item(s) they want by placing one or more tickets in the "hat" beside the item(s) they are trying to win. At the conclusion of bidding, one winning ticket is drawn from the "hat" beside each item, and the item is given to the owner of that ticket.
A bidder may increase the chance of winning by buying and bidding more tickets on a specific item.
***White Elephant Gift Exchange: Gifts are typically inexpensive, humorous items, or items from home; the term white elephant refers to a gift that you no longer have a use for or attachment to. Each participant is asked to bring a wrapped gift. Participants draw numbers from a hat to determine their swap order from one up to the total number of participants.
Each person gets a crack at choosing a gift. The person who picks the first gift opens it and shows it to the rest of the company. Then the number two participant picks a gift and chooses to either unwrap it or swap it for an unwrapped gift. If the gift is swapped, the person who had her gift taken from her gets to unwrap the chosen gift, and the turn passes.
